With 60 plus amateur fights under his belt and multiple Cleveland Golden Gloves championships to his name, the time has come for Alliance native Ryizeemmion Ford to make the jump to the pro game.
Ford celebrated two big milestones in his life last week, both of which will forever change his life as the 25-year-old welcomed his daughter into the world and signed his managerial contract with Derek Gionta of Pittsburgh two days later.
The process of signing with a manager is something that Ford and his team led by his lead trainer Lorenzo Scott of Common Ground Athletic Club took their time with to make sure they made the right choice.
"We were going to a lot of fights and networking with people and just talking," Ford said of the process of signing. "Just wanted to make sure we got with the right people and the right team and make they sure they got the best interest for me and I believe we got that".
Ford who said he will likely enter the pro ranks at either 126 or 130 pounds is eyeing a possible June date in Cleveland for his debut and say's he will leave the search for an opponent to his management team.
"I'll leave that with my management and let them handle that," stated Ford when asked if he has any opponents in mind for his debut. "I know they're going to do their part and all I have to do is keep training and handle whoever they put in front of me".
Now that the ink is dried Ford knows it's time to go to work, something he's more than ready and excited for.
"It feels good, it feels great. This is something I've been talking about since I was in high school and that was years ago," Ford said. "It's only a dream until you do it so it's time to go to work".
