Farrell has endured many ups and downs through its existence but one man has been on a steady crusade to unify and not give up on the town of roughly 5,000 which was once a major contributor to the American economy with its steel production in the early 1900's.
Cliff "Raw" Gregory has used his boxing gym located at 300 Roemer Boulevard to promote fitness, mold young minds, and bring a town together even during the rough times which is why he is billing his amateur card this upcoming Saturday being held at RAW Boxing and Fitness as Fight for Peace.
"We can either provide an outlet for natural aggression and a thirst for risk through supervised boxing or ignore it and see it erupt in terrible and tragic ways", said Gregory on promoting peace through boxing to help curb violence.
Not only is Gregory promoting peace to those in the gym but he's out promoting his show in hopes that those who come out will realize just how vital his gym and program are to the community of Farrell and the surrounding area.
"We are showing our community, especially the youth that boxing is the best way to relieve stress and anger by promoting discipline and goal setting. We have kids from our city and surrounding areas who are involved in boxing and instead of releasing stress and anger in negative ways they are in the gym working hard every day to become better human beings"
First bell is slated for 6:00 PM with the doors opening at 4:00 PM. Tickets will be available for $10 with all proceeds benefiting the kids in the RAW Boxing Club by helping provide equipment, registration fees, travel money, and physicals.
Gregory made it known however that this Saturday will not be the last time you hear the words "fight for peace" come from his mouth.
"After the show, I will continue with the fight for peace theme until we start to see change," said Gregory.
