Regional Roundup

- A pair of young prospects from Northeast Ohio picked up victories this past Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia as middleweight Jose Rodriguez Jr. (Akron) and lightweight Thomas Mattice (Cleveland) both remained unbeaten.

Rodriguez, 23, improved his record to 5-0 with 4 knockouts as he defeated Anthony Overby (0-4) of Virginia by a unanimous decision. 

While Rodriguez got pushed the distance for the first time in his career, Mattice upped his knockout streak to four matches with his victory over Orlando Rizo (19-12). 

Mattice, 27, improved his record to 10-0 with 8 of his victories coming by way of knockout.  

- Showtime rolled into Cleveland this past Friday night for a televised card at the Masonic Temple and Performing Arts Center.

Cleveland native Yuandale Evans, 28, remained in contention in the featherweight division scoring a split decision victory over Luis Rosa Jr in a highly entertaining slugfest. 

With the victory, Evans improved his record to 20-1 with 14 knockouts while Rosa saw his record slip to 23-1.

 Following his victory, Evans was quick to make it known that he wants the top guys in the division.

"I want Gary Russell, I want Frampton, I want Santa Cruz,” said Evans.
Also representing Cleveland on the Showtime card was the former USA Olympian Charles Conwell who is making a name for himself as one of the top young talents in the junior middleweight division. 
Conwell, 20, improved to 6-0 with 5 knockouts as he made easy work of Roque Zapata in a onesided six-round decision.

Also impressing in front of his hometown crowd was 21-year-old super middleweight prospect Isaiah Steen. 

Steen improved his record to 10-0 with 8 knockouts with his knockout victory over Eduardo Flores (26-27-3).

- Amateur boxing will hit the Masonic Temple and Performing Arts Center in Cleveland this Saturday, November 18th as the Best in Boxing VIII hosted by the Glenville Recreation Center brings boxers from Ohio, Canada, and all other states for this 15 bout card.
The matches are slated to begin at 6:00 PM.

- Ellwood City will be the site of more amateur fights this Saturday, November 18th as the Ellwood City Police Boxing Club hosts Saturday Night Fights at the Sons of Italy located at 808 Lawrence Avenue.
According to the USA Boxing website, this event is slated to begin at 5:00 PM.
