Holt Wins as Conway-Munguia Put On a Show at Mountaineer

Joey Holt
While Tahlik Taylor traveled some 450 miles to the Mountaineer Casino and Resot located right outside Chester, West Virginia from his home in Greensboro, North Carolina for Wednesday's main event, Joey Holt literally just had to pay a 75 cent toll to cross the river from his hometown of East Liverpool.

With the fans in his corner, the hometown light heavyweight was able to use a huge fourth and final round in which he dropped Taylor en route to a 40-35 victory on all three judges scorecards.

Holt, 32, improved his record to 9-0 while the 23-year-old Taylor slipped to 2-9.

In the co-main event, Pittsburgh's Matt Conway improved to 11-0 as he defeated Jorge Munguia of Tegucigalpa, Honduras in a six-round lightweight contest which turned out to be the most entertaining bout of the evening.

Conway, 22, started to distance himself from Mungula on the scorecards in the second round by landing multiple hard combos and working the body well but Mungula (12-11) always answered, even on wobbly legs.

As the fight wore on, Conway's skillset and power showed to be superior, but the 28-year-old Mungula continued to show his granite chin and the heart of a lion in staying off the canvas, even fighting back in the final round after eating a massive left.

Conway won on all three judges scorecards by scores of 60-54, 60-54, and 59-55.

With the victory, Conway is  starting to enter the conversation as one of the top rising lightweights in the

United States.

Earlier in the evening, the older of the two Conway brothers, Mike, scored the nights only knockout on the professional portion of the card.

Conway, 23, scored a third-round knockout with a series of body shots in a super lightweight contest over Mundo Martinez who was making his debut out of Indianapolis, Indiana to improve his record to 2-1.

One of the many talented young prospects that Cleveland has been producing as of late secured another victory as Montana Love used his superior hand speed and skill set to cruise to a shutout 60-53 victory on all three of the judge's scorecards improving his record to 8-0.

Montana Love
Love, 22, landed at will during the six-round super lightweight bout as his opponent, Wilfredo Acuna of Managua, Nicaragua stared to have the effects on his face show by the fights end.

Acuna, 32, saw his record slip to 16-22.

Another favorite of the fans that packed the Made Men Promotions card at the Ballroom at Mountaineer was Justin Steave of Weirton, WV who slipped past James Robinson of York, Pennsylvania in a four-round middleweight bout.

Steave, 31, improved his record to 7-1 winning 39-37 on two of the judge's scorecards while the other had it 38-38.
