Smith, Ford Victorious at All Star Boxing Show 2

Amateur boxing returned to the Youngstown area on Saturday night as a solid crowd convened at the Palermo Center in Campbell.

The main event of the evening at the 132-pound weight limit pitted two Golden Glove Champions as the winner of the Cleveland Golden Gloves, Ryizeemmeon Ford takes on the Ofacio Falcon who won the New York City Golden Gloves tournament.

Ford, 24, who hails from Alliance and trains at Common Ground Boxing Athletic Club under the direction of trainer Lorenzo Scott used a solid opening round to set the tone for the decisive decision in a bout that was originally scheduled to be fought in May.

In the co-main event, Drew Smith of Hanoverton who trains at Salem Boxing Club used a commanding second round to wear down and defeat Carl Polk of Cleveland Boxing Club in a 155-pound bout.

Smith, who was victorious at the first All Star boxing show in May, started slowly as Polk commanded the opening round but found his range in the final
two rounds throwing and connecting at almost double the pace of Polk.

There were two knockout victories scored on the evening including Nade Cordova of Pontiac, Michigan fighting out of Burnside Boxing in Struthers needing less than a minute to dispose of Steubenvilles Nate Young who was representing Board's Boxing Club.

Also scoring a knockout victory was Brian McElrath of Akron Boxing Club who stopped Skyler Robiscik of Jackmain Boxing Club in impressive fashion in the second round of their 174-pound match.

McElrath started slow before connecting in the second round and forcing a pair of standing 8 counts before his opponent's corner threw in the towel.

Impressing but falling in his debut was Izik Collins of Salem Boxing Club.

Collins showed impressive hand and foot speed but could not find his range against Shakckel Torrest of United Boxing Club who out landed Collins in an entertaining matchup.

The lone female bout on the night saw Shannon Potter of Randy Jarvis Boxing Club in Akron out work Tori Ward from East Palestine who was representing Downtown Boxing Club.
